This is the last time she was permitted to sail as a part of Operation Sail, due to some bad press claiming her crew used City funds to make her voyages by the Sun Papers. The ship actually used sponsors such as Trailways and Budwisor to help buy her fuel, and the crew was mostly volunteer. She was then denied a second layer of plating making her sea worthy by the City Controller. A rivet had failed in her hull under a dripping sanitary pump, and a sounding tape eventually punched a small hole in her hull. This was the end of her ambassadorship for Baltimore City, along the East Coast. http://www.lightship116-538.org/apps/photos/photo?photoID=59518896 59518896 Artist's Calender Picture of Chesapeake A Calender Picture from 1981 of Lighthouses; this one of the Chesapeake by A.B.
