Past Events and Volunteer Activities - 2013

 - December - Saturday the 7th,  9am to 4pm;  Also Pearl Harbor Day Ceremony on Taney at noon. - COMPLETED

 - November -  Saturday the 16th, 9am to 4pm;  ALSO, the last Chesapeake Chapter, US Lighthouse Society Volunteer Work Day on Lightship CHESAPEAKE for 2013  COMPLETE.  A big Thank You to Andy, Anne, Hobie, Heidi, Tony, Greg and Rob for their hard work today!

 - October - Saturday the 26th, Volunteer work day - 8:30 am to 4pm.

 - October - Wednesday the 23rd, Free Fall Baltimore, lecture on the Lightship Chesapeake - 6 to 7pm.  click here for HSIB Free Fall events  COMPLETED and thanks to the two couples who attended, it was a nice evening!

 - September  - Saturday the 21st, Volunteer work day - 8am to 6:00pm.  COMPLETED.      THANK YOU to all the LH Challenge participants who took the time to visit the Lightship!  We enjoyed showing you a great piece of Lighthouse and Maritime history that most people know nothing about!

 - September  - Saturday & Sunday the 21st & 22nd, The 2013 Maryland Lighthouse Challenge !!!  The Lightship will be open from 8 to 6 and the cost for single ship admission is $5 from 10 to 6, but FREE from 8 to 10am!!!  The standard Lightship souvenir and passport stamp will be available at the 7 Foot Knolls Lighthouse for Challenge participants.  HOWEVER, the SPECIAL passport stamp will be available ONLY at the Lightship all day Saturday and Sunday from 8-6.  The special stamp has the LH Challenge dates on it, a photo of it is on the Home Page.  Click HERE and HERE for more info.   Going to see just a few of these lighthouses is a GREAT way to explore parts of Maryland that you have not visited before.  COMPLETED

  - August 17th DATE CHANGE - Victory Night at Historic Ships In Baltimore (HSIB) - 6 to 8pm.  A celebration of all who served on the HSIB historic ships and their descendants; plus the museum members and volunteers who preserve these ships.  FREE event BUT a RSVP is REQUIRED.    LS volunteers contact Greg for more information and to RSVP. 

 - August 17th + 18th 2013 - the Amateur Radio Lighthouse Society International Lighthouse-Lightship weekend.  See the web site: illw.net

  - August -  Monday the 12th - ONE-Day Salvage trip to the James River Reserve Fleet (JRRF) in Newport News, VA -  Short Notice + NOW FIRM;  be at the JRRF gate at 0650. COMPLETED.  A very hot day but extremely successful.  Thanks Andy, Greg + Hobie.

   - August 7th - NATIONAL LIGHTHOUSE DAY  -  By a joint resolution designating this day as “National Lighthouse Day" which was introduced to Congress on April 28, 1988 and signed into public law (No. 100-622) on November 5, 1988 by President Ronald Reagan    Click HERE to see the 2013 US Senate Resolution.    The date of August 7th was selected because on that date in 1789, President George Washington signed the Lighthouse Act of 1789 which transferred ownership and operation of all lighthouses in the U.  - July - Monday the 29th, Research visit to USCG Historians office.   COMPLETED 

 - July - Saturday the 6th, Volunteer work day - 8am to 1:30pm.    COMPLETED.

  - June - Saturday the 8th, Volunteer work day - CANCELLED.

 - May 22nd - National Maritime Day  National Maritime Day is observed on May 22, the date that the American steamship Savannah sailed from the United States to England. This event marked the first successful crossing of the Atlantic Ocean using steam propulsion.  On May 20, 1933, Congress declared May 22 as National Maritime Day.    In 2006 the Maritime Administration joined forces with the American Association of Port Authorities, the US Army Corps of Engineers, Waterways Council Inc, the US Coast Guard, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and other entities involved in the maritime industry to raise the awareness of National Maritime Day and of the maritime industry as a whole.

  - May - Saturday the 4th, Volunteer work day - 9 am to 4 pm.  ALSO, Chesapeake Chapter of the US Lighthouse Society Volunteer Work Day on Lightship CHESAPEAKECOMPLETED!   This was a very busy day so a big Thank You goes out to Anne, Ed, Greg, Hobie, Lauren, Paula and Tony!!!

 - April -  Saturday the 13th - CANCELLED.
